  • Hey Patrick,

You were saying earlier about the Discord Link, and no, I don't have it. Can you tell me what it is?

    Thanks, Dain :)

  • It is in the dark days of Umbar, one year after Sauron's demise and the destruction of Umbar's fleets. The Haradrim and Easterlings have surrendered to a quickly recovering and expanding Gondor, and the attack on the Havens of Umbar is expected at any time. The future of Umbar is uncertain, though not all is known to the Umbarans...

It is a cool night, eerily calm and quiet. Not bird or beast makes a sound near the Palace of Umbar's King Vëantur, and everything seems dead under shadow, and shadow shall be Umbar's fate. On that fateful night Vëantur suddenly wakes up to a terrifying nightmare, and sees in the far corner of the room a shadow that no light can pierce.

    • He wakes up with a start, almost instinctively grabbing the knife by his bedside. His breathing slows, realizing that it was only a nightmare. Until he sees the dark shadow. He grabs the lamp on the table and shines it forward, towards the Shadow so black it is almost a void.

    • The shadow holds no shape, no indication of its true nature. Yet from it radiates an aura of power and malice, invoking terror as it wishes.

"King Vëantur Elerion. Dark days have fallen on your kingdom, and disgrace has fallen on your house and name, as it has fallen on all Umbar. The days of your rule would seem to be at their end, and it is your shoulders that must bear this burden. It would seem that the King out of the North shall take this city and all your posessions, leaving you cast into the mud to grovel before some Lord from the Kingdom of Men, a beggar in the streets left below those you once held as your subjects until you withered and died, forgotten in the course of time save that your name and people would be associated only with cowardice. The path you follow shall bring you this doom."

    • Veantur is quite suprised to be talking to an incorporeal shadow.

"I am not following this path through my own choice, it is the one set forth for me by Gondor. Yet, I would forge for myself a new path."

    • "Though these events are not your will or bidding, thus you must follow it. But I come not to tell you of ill fate, but one where Umbar rises among the great kingdoms of Middle-earth to make its claim of power, and only might is attributed to its name. I come to tell you that your line might endure for millenia to one day throw Gondor into ruin greater than what you now face. I have come to save Umbar from utter death."

Slowly within the shadow, the faint outline of a man begins to develop.

  • In the RP, my character told Eradan that the Atmoran-Ithilrim force should wait while the Atmoran supply lines bring in artillery to assault the rammas, using imported gunpowder from Xin(DD has cleared that part). Malta is claiming that I have to clear it with you first.

    • You do have the clear it with me first, and my decision is 'no'. You can have something along the lines of Greek Fire, or Mordorian Fire that is mentioned in the books, but no explosives.

    • What about the gunpowder stationary explosives used in the siege of Minas Tirith?

  • Kinda wanted to do a mini RP, I was wanting to use a new chracter that I've been thinking up if you don't mind.

She would be a Xinese Princess sent to Umbar after the war to remake/reintroduce relations.

  • So I see the doc is being worked on, is there any hope for it in the future?

  • In lore, Dol Amroth is mentioned alongside Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith as one of the safest, most easily defendable places owned by the race of men. Indeed, it's one of the few mentions Dol Amroth even gets in canon.

So, keeping with that, I've devised a unique defensive layout for Dol Amroth, that I've used and developed over the past few years.

    Map of Dol Amroth

Ignoring my terrible handwriting, I'll try to explain the defences to you. Basically, Dol Amroth is built into a small harbour that's been eroded away by the relentless ocean. Most of the buildings and towers are built into the massive cliffs that surround the place (a little like Petra now that I think about it, but with much sheerer cliffs).

The only way into Dol Amroth is along the Seaward Road (upper left corner of the map), a small, narrow trail that leads along the seaside, with a sheer cliff on the south side, and a fifty-foot drop into cold ocean on the other. The road is, needless to say, very easily defendable. It is defended by a massive white gate.

The enterence to the harbor is the only other way into Dol Amroth. As I described on the main thread, it is guarded by the massive and ancient Sea-Gate, a huge retractable wall that can block off the enterence to the harbor in times of need. It his filled with well-covered positions for archers, mounted ballistas, and other unpleasant surprises. Even after hundreds of years of corisair battles, Umbarians have never broken The Sea-Gate.

All that's just to take the mainland. Tirith Aear itself is another story. The Sea-Ward Tower is built on a lone isle in the midst of the harbour, and accessable only by a heavily fortified causeway to the shore. Tirith Aear itself is a nearly impregnable fortress, covered in various levels of defences and archery positions.

So yeah, in keeping with lore, I've tried to make Dol Amroth a fortress to rival Minas Tirith, while still giving it its own unique flavor (the implimentation of causeways and sea-oriented warfare instead of height as the main advantage.)

  • I am starting an A Song of Ice and Fire D&D group! Do you have skype? If so, you can join! Others in the group are Dragon and Bow, my cohorts on TOA. If you have a problem with letting us hear your voice, or you don't have a microphone, we can work things out. So far, our characters:

Dragon - Ser Argain, a knight formerly in service to House Bolton.

Bow - Morvir, a wildling wandering south of the Wall.

We're starting a few days before the beginning of "The Sworn Sword", the second tale of Dunk & Egg. As all D&D games need antagonists, the time period offers several: Daemon II Blackfyre and his brothers, Bittersteel, Bloodraven, Raymun Redbeard, and Dagon Greyjoy.

Sounds very interesting, and I might download skype for that, although I'm not sure if I will join. I'd like to further discuss the details on Discord with you.
