  • So, recently I was in the mood to check this place after I hadn't payed it a visit for a while and it definitely disappointed me. Furthemore, it seems like this particular topic is generally being avoided and that's really bugging me out.

This wiki is absolutely dead. The thread in the bottom of the wiki activity is 17 days old. It's really sad to see a place that I've hanged out for a long time completely devastated. Maybe it's just me but I really think it is not. MERP has surely been suffering for a while but it didn't die...Well, until now of course. Was it the countless arguments? The growth of the members which made them lose their love for RPing or the lack of new faces? Either way it has been done, most members have abandoned this place and now it's a mere miniature of what it initially was. I think of the fun times I had here and it seems to me that it's so far behind, like it never happened as I'm seeing this crippled reality. Alright, I may be portraying this a bit too melodramatic but still, I want everyone who reads this to answer the following question: Am I wrong? Didn't you have some great times here? Did you not make yourself happy only by thinking about the great fights that you had in the RPs?

The truth is though that when something lacks development it is destined to die, it's just a matter of time. And even though there were many tries to make improvements in this particular wiki nothing too extravagant or important succeeded. And even if it did, it would bring controversy and arguments with it. And now I want to be brutally honest. It all starts from the top, if the upper management isn't willing or can't make changes for certain reasons then the changes will not occur. The leader must be the one to pull the strings and must step up no matter what. This is how wikias work and this is how they were made to work. Of course I'm not talking about some kind of dictatorship where the people have no say. I'm talking about the leader being able to guide the members in the right direction to choose what will be better for the platform. No matter how hard they try, the "normal" members cannot change a wikia, it's simply because they lack the power and the tools to do so. They don't have enough permissions. And when the ones with the power and tools needed to make changes decide not to do anything, then nothing will happen; simple as that. To finish off, even if some of the peeps in charge are willing to make reforms it won't be enough without the full support of the one in charge and the other staff. Because when it's decided by the people that a change will be made it shouldn't be the people who pull it off. Rather, the staff.

Also, I do not know what happened to the discord or even if this wiki has a discord anymore but if it does, someone please hit me up with a link.

I really want to hear the feedback of everyone who's still here and of course want to see things from the others' prespective. Lastly, I don't want some sort of flame war to start, let's have a civil discussion for once. (Although I doubt it since the content I included ain't 'flameable'.)

    • Good points, and we are currently starting to try to transform this place, starting with the obligatory screa- discussion over on Discord that's currently going on. We're mostly trying to turn this into a more lore-development oriented place, with RPing being a side thing. My idea was to reform this somewhere else slightly different, with RPing and lore-development going hand-in-hand, but the main problem with that was where to do it. Reddit's formatting is terrible for this, and wikia is generally hard to see, and so our only way to get new members is to advertise, which failed. Oh, and yeah, welcome back! Should've probably said that at the start, but eh.

Alright, to begin with I don't know if it is just me but I see no thread displaying information about any kind of reformation undegoing on here.(On this wiki at least) This wiki had been working 'fine' in the aspect of RPing at least for experienced members so there's no need to start over in a new platform (Talking about RPing) Advertising was a failure because it was not done right. Someone had messaged Aura for a full partnership but he never got a response (The guy with the RP wiki community). This could prove to be an amazing partnership but it never took off.

The main problem of this wikia is the formatting. It is hard to find information about anything and there's hardly any information about the basics of RPing. There's no page to tell you how to roleplay or how to create new characters. This can seem like something which would be known to everyone but it's really not. When you join a new community and you have no experience on how it works, there is no way for you to learn unless someone tells you.

Ah, and furthermore I see no changes to this place whatsoever. All i can see is DD2 creating more lore for him (Which is a good thing) and moving RPs slowly.

Also, if this so called 'discord' is filled with political debates and nothing else I would rather not be a part of it.

    • Oh such amazing progress in almost a month. Aren't inactive RPs which haven't gotten any reply in months considered old RPs? (can't help but being trigerd)

If a place's dead, at least declare it dead.

    • It's kinda dead tbh. We just keep hoping for some sort of rebirth.

Oh, also there is a more 'faster'/'alive' chat on discord if you wanted to be part of it (will need to give you the link on your wall and when you are online to prevent some people from getting on.

    • In the end the Discord kind of took the need for conversation, and the with the death of the conflicts came the death of the wiki also. Now the Discord's dead as well, because of the whole Rev controversy.

    • When I was still a tad active on the wiki (alhtough I don't recall joining any RPs here, just writing shit in the mainspace of the wiki) I tried encouraging others to do so and push for a couple of changes of things I thought could have been done better. However that just brought arguments and clashes between me and other people and haven't tried anything yet since.

I feel like if you had made an attractive mainspace to show other people that you put genuine time and planning in RPs, characters, stories, settings/locations etc. and sorted out your categories, updated the forums, rid yourself of an unnecessary huge amount of staff that was either inactive or didn't do squat... just small changes that could slowly transform the wiki into something better, more community driven, a bit more regulated and orderly, I believe it would have drawn more people from similar RP wikias.

    • we've pretty much migrated to discord, faster commenting speed.

Although if people want to revamp the wiki for reals I'm always open.

Our becoming so desperate for members be they new and keeping them, we allowed one of the 4channers who raided us to stay and treated them like a member despite their doing nothing but shitpost. I personally believe the wiki failed when we became so depserate to keep people around we stopped enforcing the *spirit of the rules* we shouldn't enforce rules, rather the spirit of them.

    • I remember coming to these wikis, and having an excellent time creating stories of epic proportions. Of course, school got in the way, and then my school blocked these websites altogether. It was a very sad day, and I missed y'all. Hopefully there could be a more convenient way of creating new stories... And compiling the old ones into a book or something.

    • My thoughts exactly Morgoth. I was just thinking of the great (and sometimes gruesome) times we had in might and magic and age of magic, and it really was dissapointing to come back and find that all of the normal bustling nature of this place is gone. I was used to not being able to go a half hour without getting a new notification from some rp or another, and typically getting a few messages on each rp every 2 hours or so... now there hasn't been another post in... what, 16 days?
